New South Wales

CBD Transformation

The primary aim of the Retail Growth Strategy was to engage Council, the businesses and the community to develop a vision and direction for Queanbeyan’s CBD. The Strategy focused on the current retail mix and retail catchment areas to better understand market share and escape expenditure, an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the retail offer and impact of competitor centres, strategies to increase retail opportunities and a clear action plan for the future. Engaging with private sector businesses and owners was critical to successful implementation of the Strategy.

Renmark

South Australia

The primary aim of the project was to assess the current retail, hospitality and services situation in the various sectors of the CBD.

The process of developing the Retail Report Card commenced with a Business Needs Survey that was circulated to the business database of Council, the Business Network and Renmark Square. Businesses responded to the questions with a rating of 1-5 which now provides a baseline for measurement of outcomes delivered against agreed objectives.

Organisation & Management – measuring the benefits of a partnership that includes Council, property owners and business owners. Who has ownership of the mainstreet and customer experience?

Marketing & Promotion – measuring the business benefits of effective marketing, promotional activities and events. Marketing should be supported by the business sectors to amplify the effects and benefits.

Business Mix Development – measuring the benefits of a business retention and attraction strategy that builds a sustainable business mix and attracts new and unique brands to Renmark.

Streetscape – measures the flow on benefits of Councils investment into the Urban Design Framework by motivating property owners to upgrade and maintain buildings and shop owners to improve shop fronts to reflect the high-quality streetscape. Jensen Plus led the UDF streetscape works project.
